Box Score

PITTSBURGH--The Pitt baseball team traveled to Cleveland Wednesday for a non-conference contest against Cleveland State. The Panthers prevailed 4-2 in a game that was called after five innings due to rain.

Pitt jumped on the Vikings from the onset, as a Nick Mullins (Brick, N.J./Brookdale CC) single and a Dan Williams (Berwyn, Pa./Episcopal Academy) walk was followed by a bomb to left center by freshman Joe Leonard (Dawson, Pa./Connellsville) in the first inning that gave the Panthers an early 3-0 lead.

Both teams were unable plate anymore runners until Pitt added their final run in the fourth when a Mullins sacrifice fly to left allowed Chris Tonte (Pittston, Pa./Lackawanna CC) to come in from third.

Cleveland State added one tally a piece in the fourth and fifth frames, but found themselves on the short end of the scoreboard when the umpires called the game.

Pitt will conclude their season this weekend when they welcome Connecticut to Trees Field for a three-game series beginning on Thursday at 6 p.m.
